WelcomeLean East is a health campaign in the East End of Newcastle involving a range of organisations working closely together to help tackle health and weight issues among children. The aim is to provide opportunities for children and families to eat healthily, have fun and take part in more exercise together. Behind this is a serious message. NHS statistics show that an area of the East End of the Newcastle has a higher proportion of children starting school who are overweight than in other parts of the city. To help tackle this, the Newcastle Primary Care Trust, the City Council and a number of local organisations in the voluntary and private sector have developed a programme to help tackle this serious health problem. The whole approach behind the project is about involving people and projects and pooling ideas and expertise. Lessons learned from this will be shared with other areas facing similar issues. We are passionate about the health and happiness of children in Newcastle. If you are too, we would like to hear from you and work with you. Lean East advert
